Curriculum

ACROSS ALL STANDARDS

The curriculum at Hebron is divided into four major sections, each led by a Head of School. In each section, for each subject, there are written programmes of study and various attainment targets. From Junior School to Standard 11, we strive for balance and breadth in the curriculum so that students complete Std. 11 with a comprehension of diverse areas of knowledge as well as a wide range of skills. A 9-session/day timetable and an evening Prep programme are applied to implement the Curriculum.

Food and Nutrition Class

From Junior School to Standard 11, we strive for balance and breadth in the curriculum so that students complete Standard 11 with a comprehension of diverse areas of knowledge as well as a wide range of skills.

Junior School: Standards 1 - 6

Students study an international version of the English National Curriculum, with plenty of input to reflect both local and global history, geography, and culture, as well as some topics related to the international student and faculty body. As well as internal assessments, both formal and informal, students are periodically assessed using external tools such as CATs.

Middle School: Standards 7 - 9

Subject lessons are taught in broad accordance with the English National Curriculum, along with PSHE (Personal Social Health and Economic Education). The curriculum is also informed by our local context, as well as the global experience of our students and staff. Students in Middle School study all of the subjects offered by the curriculum, including French and Hindi in Standards 7, with ;a choice of two of the three offered Foreign Languages (Hindi, French and German) in Std 8 and 9. Native speakers may also choose Korean as one of their language options in Middle School.

Senior School: Standards 10 & 11 (IGCSE)

Studies from Standard 9 to 11 are geared toward English IGCSE courses and examinations, though the IGCSE (or GCSE) syllabus is formally taught in Standard 10 and 11. Students select options from groups of subjects - Languages, Humanities, Sciences, and the Creative Arts. English (Language and Literature), Mathematics, and Religious Studies are still required up to the IGCSE level. At the end of Standard 10, students take external Religious Studies examinations. Many students also take Maths (Extended) exams at the end of Standard 10.

A-level examinations

A levels: Standards 12 and 13 (AS and A2 levels)

Students can choose between three and four A Level subjects. An A Level course takes two years to complete, and most are linear, meaning that students are assessed on all of their learning at the end of the second academic year. We also offer the International Project Qualification (IPQ) at Hebron, which is an exciting project-based qualification that allows students to investigate and develop an academic study in a field of their choice.

Teaching and Learning

A unique aspect of life at Hebron is that our teachers are drawn from many different countries and educational backgrounds. This adds to the richness of our students’ experience in the classroom. We do, however, aim for consistency in how we encourage students to be active learners, thinking deeply about the subjects they study. This is not just good preparation for IGCSEs and A Levels, but also lays the foundation for lifelong habits of curiosity and independent learning.

We use the Cambridge Learner Attributes  - Confident, Responsible, Reflective, Innovative, and Engaged - as a focus for our teaching and learning, and in each section of the school, we expect our teachers to model these attributes in their own practice.
